Hebrews 12:1-2

When I was younger, I swam often in the Pacific Ocean. I remember coming out of the ocean, how it
felt walking against thigh-high wave-resistance, chilled to the bone, forcing myself to shore. Then the
soft sand would suck away my footing; between the sand, the sea, and the chilly temperatures, I'd
seriously think about never doing it again.
(But I did!)
Isn't life like that? Even when we know where our safe, sensible shore is, we have to fight against our
own desires, our will, our habits, our lack of understanding or knowledge to get where God wants us
to be. Yet His word says to PRESS IN - to run the race, to throw off those childish, impulsive, fleshlovin'
things which tangle us up and hold us back ... obey, focus our eyes on Jesus, and RUN HIS
RACE.
