SPOKE SKU 017 In the Old Testament, there are lots of prophets, who warned and exhorted and sometimes scolded and admonished the people of God. There were those who spoke in prophecy, telling of things to come. They were listened to, but not always heard ... for the fortunate who heard and applied and paid heed to the warnings or call of God, disaster was averted by the hands of a merciful God. For those who chose not to hear ... death, in the worst possible sense ... Many think today that prophets of God are a thing of the past. We look at modern-day prophets as sorta borderline crazy, kinda strange, maybe-we-should-ignore-him kind of people, because in this day and age those who would prophesy -- well, we don't know their motives, their record for accuracy, their background or training. We've been compromised by soothsayers and psychics and those who cloak witchcraft in "Christianese"... not to mention the logic of man's reasoning, and a wariness of all things supernatural. But God's not limited to talking directly to His people through prophets, like in the Old Testament. That was then, this is NOW. First of all, we have Jesus, our Mediator before the throne of God. We have personal relationship - a private ear, so to speak --- and we have the Holy Spirit, our Discerner of things mysterious to us. Third, we have the written Word, the inspiration of God, in our hands to read, mull over, simmer on, dig into. And that means we can receive personal revelation, a message from God to us, just us, through His Word, enlightened in our minds and hearts by the anointing of the Holy Ghost. Like the people of old, we can listen, and HEAR ... and even today, especially today, we will hear God speak. |
