| DEVOTION Oh, how often do I rush in before thinking, before asking the Lord ... And how often have I run into a great big wall, whopped my head, and then blamed God for not steering me around it? Well, often enough to - FINALLY! - get it ... ask first, silly! When I rush into my day, and do not pray first, is it any wonder that my day unravels? If I make a decision, or take an action, without first checking with my Director, why am I suprised when the direction I pick misses the mark? It isn't that I am not capable of making decisions or taking actions without God's help. When He gave me free choice, He gave me the right to choose that stuff for myself. When He gave me the Holy Spirit to dwell in my heart, He gave me a voice to hear in my spirit to help with the steering. But specifically asking FIRST gives the Lord the opportunity to teach me the whys and wherefores of a decision. It gives me the chance to lay down anything in my flesh that would steer me off course. There's an acknowledgement in my asking that the Lord God is my Master, and He knows stuff I can't see, can't guess is there waiting for me. It isn't about being a puppet. It's about wanting the best for my life, for my decisions, for my actions and speech. And who knows "the best" better than the Lord? I want to be the best I can be. I want to be the best wife, the best mom, the best artist, the best friend, the best servant ... not compared to any one else, but the best ME God has designed me to become. And that means checking in with HIM before I whop into a wall! | |||||||||||||||||||||
