CAN
DO Some friends of ours own a superKart racing track, and we work there occasionally for the fun of it. It is gorgeous, with beautiful oak & evergreens, mature, sculpted landscaping and a paved professional track. The lodge, newly painted, holds exciting displays of cool racing stuff, and business is booming. Which is wonderful for my friends, and a real pleasure for us to visit on a warm summer Saturday. But it wasn't always so. They didn't get the benefit of starting new, fresh, clean. They "inherited" the business, with all it's ugly baggage and debt, with run-down buildings and a racetrack with potholes and gravel loops. Berry bushes were everywhere, growing like weeds, and covered in heavy dust. It was a local 'hang-out' as well, so garbage and beer/pop cans were all over. They also inherited the former owner, who didn't see anything wrong in the mess, who liked a drink (or two) now and again (and again) ... and who just couldn't seem to let go. And my friends had to come in, and see all that, but NOT see all that, rather see what God had in mind for that place, for that potential ministry. And God showed them what He wanted done. Over the past several years, summer in and summer out, every single solitary weekend, they held that vision in front of them. They stood on this verse, and trusted God for every answer, for the financing, and the untangling of messy details, for relationship with owner and vendors and customers that was healthy and whole, Christ-centered, clean. They hired local teenagers, and as well as paying them money to help them shape this place, they gave them vision, too, hope for the future, encouragement for the day. They patiently worked with the former owner, standing their ground, working the vision, working the Word. And today, lots of hard work and lots of God's word later, they have their vision. And, like our God, it is good. | |||||||||||||||||||||
